Adding Sensors to the Robot

In order to move around without becoming stuck or damaged, a mobile robot needs to be able to monitor and respond to its environment. This ability is made possible by sensors, which send signals to the microcontroller, triggering certain navigational responses. For example, your robot might be able to detect when it is about to hit a wall or fall down a flight of stairs. When sensors send a signal, the microcontroller cues an avoidance behavior. Figure 1 shows the two types of sensors included in the kit.
