I scrutinized your photos for a few minutes before spotting what I think is problem: there appears to be a manufacturing defect with the LCD.

If you look closely at the second photo above, you can see that one of the ten pins on the device has not be soldered into place. I suspect this is causing the LCD to misbehave.

We will ship a replacement LCD out to you today. In the meantime, if you happen to have a soldering iron, you could apply a small amount of solder to the pad surrounding that one dry pin. Just be careful not to create a solder bridge with adjacent pins.

I apologize for the problem. Generally, our suppliers do very careful work.
